Launch of the West Africa Right to Information Report and Policy Brief: An Evening Dialogue on Strengthening the Right to Information and Accountability Efforts

Last night, following the conclusion of the Transparency International (TI) 2026 Africa Regional Meeting (ARM) stakeholders from across West Africa and beyond convened at the Accra City Hotel, Ghana, for the official launch of the West Africa Right to Information (RTI) Report and Policy Brief.

The event, co-organised by Transparency International Ghana (TI-Ghana), Alliance Nationale des Consommateurs et de l’Environnement (ANCE-Togo), and the Transparency International Secretariat (TI-S), brought together civil society actors, government representatives, development partners, and local media for a focused dialogue on strengthening transparency, accountability, and access to information and to launch the West Africa Right to Information (RTI) Report and Policy Brief.

The newly launched report reflects collaboration between TI chapters in West Africa, Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, under the coordination of ANCE as regional hub. It provides insights into how the right to information can be more effectively leveraged to combat corruption and improve public accountability across the region.

The event was also joined by Chapters and Partners involved in the Collaboration, Action and Dialogue to Strengthen the Engagement of SAIs and CSOs in Improving Public Financial Management” (CADRE) project. This multi-country initiative aims to advance anti-corruption reforms through evidence-based advocacy and stronger civil society engagement across Sub-Saharan Africa. The launch marked an important milestone under Transparency International’s Stopping Impunity for Corruption through Enhanced Accountability (SICEA).

We were grateful to be joined by the Commissioner for Human Rights and Administrative Justice- Joseph Whittal (PhD), Ambassador Mohammed Lawan Gana, ECOWAS Resident Representative in Ghana, the Chair of Transparency International, François Valérian, Vice-Chair of Transparency International TI Ghana Dr Samuel Tetteh Kwashie, the Right to Information Coalition of Ghana, representatives of the Right to Information Commission, George Phiri from the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI).

The launch of the West Africa RTI Report is not an endpoint, but a starting point. The insights generated will inform future advocacy, policy engagement, and accountability initiatives across the region.
