Regional Project to Fight Impunity

Project: Stopping Impunity for Corruption through Enhanced Accountability (SICEA) in Sub-region West Africa

ANCE-Togo acting us the Regional West Africa Hub for Transparency International (TI) is currently implementing a project untitled “Stopping Impunity for Corruption through Enhanced Accountability (SICEA) Sub-region West Africa”. This project is funded by Transparency International & the United States Department of State Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL). While que key activities of the project will by implemented in four (04) countries, namely Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Togo, it will also involve several other TI chapters in West Africa on capacity building on how to use legal accountability mechanisms and the evidentiary standards required. 
The goal of this project is to build communities of practice in West Africa that promote anti-corruption reforms and leverage existing accountability mechanisms to reduce impunity for high-level corruption. It has two objectives: (1) CSOs in Africa more effectively document corruption and engage with relevant independent accountability mechanisms to deter corruption and reduce impunity for corrupt actors and (2) CSO collaboration and capacity strengthened to more effectively promote evidence-based advocacy to advance anti-corruption reforms in West Africa. This project covers a duration of 21 months starting from March 2021. 
Some specific activities of the project are:

    • Identify, collect and compile corruption cases prosecuted in the sub region
    • Produce subregional policy briefing materials on identified anti-corruption reform areas within existing regional and international systems
    • Produce communications materials on anti-corruption reform areas within existing regional and international systems 
    • Host or participate in advocacy training to CSOs in selected African countries 
    • Host and organize advocacy events as part of existing regional and international governance and/or anti-corruption fora 
    • Organize and document advocacy learning exchanges among CSOs in selected African countries (chapter-to-chapter)
